A new place

This is the new blog section of the website. There isn't much here at the moment, but expect more here in the future.

Why a blog?

To be blunt, I made this blog in anticipation of Bluesky fucking up in the next month. Bluesky Social PBC have said they will be drafting changes to their Community Guidelines. For those not in the know, they have mishandled previous Trust and Safety incidents and I believe they are out of touch with what is needed for Bluesky to succeed long-term.

Even when the fuck up happens, I don't expect to leave Bluesky (lord knows I'm still somewhat active on Twitter, retweeting im@s art) but I want to shift my attention more to this website. Speaking of the website...

Why not just use your Tumblr?

Make websites, not accounts. Frankly I should've never created that Tumblr account.

Thoughts on this website

While I'm here, I want to share my thoughts on the current state of this website. Put simply, I think it has outgrown being a static website. It's a chore to update or add content and I've grown tired of manually writing HTML. I'm even writing this in Markdown, not HTML.

It's time I use a CMS. The problem is, a goal of this website is to render acceptably on older web browsers. This website is quite simple, intentionally so, and introducing a CMS that will break compatibility with older browsers for such a simple site is unacceptable to me, even if it would make my life so much easier.

A CMS that still keeps old browsers in mind almost certainly does not exist - the Sardine Engine that Kugee is making looks promising - but the Sardine Engine is not expected until at least Summer 2025, and there's no guarantee it would work with my server setup.
